BigHand Selected On NHS North West Digital Dictation & Voice Recognition Framework

BigHand scores full marks for technical capability for digital dictation

London, UK, 28th February 2012 – According to NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), approximately 35% of NHS bodies have yet to implement a digital dictation and voice recognition solution which will allow them to move away from analogue tape technology. In turn NHS SBS has announced a procurement framework enabling NHS bodies to procure quality digital dictation and voice recognition solutions efficiently and economically. BigHand has been awarded onto both the digital dictation lot (scoring maximum marks) and the voice recognition lot.

The key benefits to NHS bodies are:

• Patient Safety

- Reduced clinical risk

- Accurate & timely information

• Operational

- Improved document turnaround times

- Reduce maintenance costs

- Transparency of workload

• Governance

- Improved data security with secure storage methods and encrypted hardware devices

- Production sign off The framework agreement will benefit all NHS organisations aligned to the NHS SBS across the UK.

In addition the framework will be available to other Public Sector Organisations (PSO) such as local authorities, other government departments or non-departmental public bodies charged with the delivery of public services.

James Kippenberger, Managing Director UK Healthcare at BigHand commented:

“The benefits of a robust, well-deployed digital dictation and voice recognition solution are well documented, with many aspects seamlessly dovetailing with the principles of the QIPP agenda. Through this framework NHS Trusts have a legally compliant route to procuring such technologies, viewed by those Trusts involved in the procurement as a ‘Top Ten’ initiative to transform the day-to-day delivery of patient care”.

BigHand now has over 48 deployments in the UK Healthcare market, importantly including 26 NHS Trust wide rollouts incorporating over 17,000 users.
